About

Clara Avenarius is an attorney with Branstad & Olson Law Office, where she primarily practices juvenile law and criminal defense. Her work includes representing clients in misdemeanor and C/D felony cases, as well as representing parents and children in CINA, TPR, delinquency, and truancy matters.

Clara earned her Juris Doctorate from Drake University Law School in 2023 and her Bachelor of Arts and Sciences from Drake University in 2020. During law school, Clara served as Associate Editor of the Drake Journal of Agricultural Law, competed on the ABA Moot Court Team, and gained hands-on experience through the Criminal Defense Legal Clinic and an internship at the Story County Attorney’s Office. She worked as a law clerk at Branstad & Olson throughout much of law school before joining the firm as an attorney after passing the Iowa Bar.

Outside of the courtroom, Clara enjoys reading, doing puzzles, pottery painting, and exploring local spots in Des Moines. She loves spending time with her partner, Earth, and their dog, Mazie, especially on long walks and weekend adventures.
